Asheville - Our loss is Heavens Gain! David Carter Kemp, 71, went home to be with his beloved Savior on Saturday, November 17, 2007. He was born on October 14, 1936 in Asheville, NC to the late James and Rosa Lance Kemp. He graduated from Lee Edwards High School in 1954. After serving in the US army in Germany, he returned home and worked for CP&L until he retired. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Georgia Cole Kemp who died June 13, 1971. David was the faithful husband of Rebecca Bridges Kemp for 35 years. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children, daughter Christie Brown and husband Rusty Brown of Asheville, NC; son, Kevin Kemp and wife Mitzi Kemp of Fairview, NC; daughter, Laura Kemp of Asheville, NC; three beloved grandchildren, Carter and Madison Brown of Asheville, NC and Ethan Kemp of Fairview, NC. Also, two brothers, Bill Kemp of Asheville, NC and Jim Kemp of Michigan and three sisters Marilyn Green of Clyde, NC, Betty Wilson of Asheville, NC and Nancy Day of Asheville, NC. He was an avid craftsman and outdoorsman. He cared deeply for the well-being of his friends and neighbors. He also cared for others around the world which could be seen by his many mission trips all across the US, Mexico, Ethiopia and Haiti. He served God with all his heart and soul. His dedication for his Church and the work of the Lord was such a beacon to all who knew him. At the time of his death, he was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville, NC. He served many years as a deacon of Georgtown Baptist Church in Leicester, NC until his health declined. Throughout his battle, he brought joy to everyone around him, no matter how sick he was. He always had encouraging words to share and a contagious sense of humor. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr., Rev. Ricky Townsend, Rev. Ricky Wolfe and Rev. Jeff Burchette officiating. Burial will be in the Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. II Timothy 4:6-8 KJV For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
