Cora Maude Hughes

Candler - Cora Maude Gibson Hughes, 93, of 46 Holly Ridge Road, passed away Friday, October 24, 2008 at her residence. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Hughes had resided most of her life in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Cole Alexander and Dixie Bumgarner Gibson, and the wife of the late Fred Lester Hughes, Sr. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; two sons: Forrest L. Hughes and Fred Hughes, Jr.; sister, Dorothy Reid; brother, Glenn Alexander Gibson; and one grandchild. Surviving are one daughter, Montrell Hughes of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Lucille Hughes of Candler; sister, Myrtle Naylor of Montgomery, AL; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 16 great, great-grandchildren with three more on the way, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at the Locust Field Baptist Church Cemetery in Dillsboro. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
