Cora Mae Hughes

Asheville - Cora Mae Mathis Hughes, 68, of Asheville passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Hiram and Lola Mae Mathis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Sherrill Hughes, one sister and three brothers. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Walter T. Hughes of the home; sons, Randall and wife Karen, Mark and wife Michell and David Hughes all of Asheville; daughter, April Wheeler and husband Ray of Old Fort; brothers, Grady Mathis and wife Bernice and Jerry Mathis and wife Linda; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and mamaw. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her, including her church family at Happy Valley Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Jock Rhue and Pastor Russell Gillespie officiating. A graveside service will be held 3:30 P.M. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
