Asheville - Cora Katherine Ledford, of 631 Pole Creasman Road died peacefully at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center on October 5, 2011. She was 95. She was born on December 23, 1915 to the late Mary Morgan and James Thomas Allman. She lived in Buncombe County all her life. She was preceded in death by her late husband, George H. Ledford, Sr. who passed away in 1986. She had four sisters who preceded her in death, Marion Bridges, Harriett Cauble, Margarett Miller and Elizabeth Summer; two brothers, Eugene Allman and William Bill Allman. She is survived by two sons, George H. Ledford, Jr. and wife Carol of Fort Mill, SC and Larry Ledford and wife Marilyn of Bent Creek in Asheville. She is survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She has two surviving sisters, Jamie Masters and Lucille Robinson. Cora was a member of Grace Baptist Church for over sixty years. She was very active in her church, till she was in her ninetys. She did voluntary work at Mission Hospital and the Rescue Mission in Asheville. She loved to travel and took many trips before she became disabled. She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always delighted when they came for visits. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home at 2 P.M. Saturday. The Reverend Steve Ackerman of Grace Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P.M. at Anders-Rice Funeral Home on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries, 225 Patton Avenue, Asheville, N.C. 28801.
