Asheville Connie Lou Wise, 96, of Asheville, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Aston Park Healthcare Center. A native of the Sandy Mush Community, Mrs. Wise had retired from Vanderbilt Shirt Company following many years of service. She was very active in raising money for the Mission Hospitals Walk-A-Thon, earning trophies for her efforts seven years in a row. She was an avid outdoorsman, and was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who would welcome anyone into her home. She was a member of Alexander Baptist Church. Mrs. Wise was a daughter of the late Johnie Williams and Nola Giles. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Sawyer; sister, Lily Wells; and brothers: Riley, David, Andrew, Moody and Clifford Williams. Surviving are her son, Jack Sawyer; former daughter-in-law, Betty Sawyer; granddaughters: Rene S. Haigler and husband Dennis, Lisa Bradley, and Tamera Sawyer; former grandson-in-law, Jerry Bradley; great-grandchildren: Candace Bradley, Lacey Bradley, and Kasey Haigler; great, great-grandson, Peri Bradley; great, great-granddaughter, baby girl Hemphill; sisters: Bonnie Long and Retha Mae Williams; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Oxner officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Unit of Aston Park Healthcare, 380 Brevard Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
