Claudia Dukes

Asheville - Claudia Judy Dukes, 91, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at her home. A native of St. George, SC, Mrs. Dukes had resided in Buncombe County since June, 1969. She was a passionate volunteer with the ABCCM, The Council on Aging, and Meals on Wheels for many years. She had also been a member of Weight Watchers for over 45 years. Mrs. Dukes was a faithful and dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she had attended service from 1969 until just a few weeks ago, and was a member of the WMU Prayer Group. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother, spending her time crocheting, cooking and taking care of her family. Mrs. Dukes was the daughter of the late David and Annie Jackson Judy. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Calvin Dukes, who passed away October 7, 2014; her son, John Canaday Dukes (1999); son-in-law, Robert Petree (2000); great, great grandson, Hunter Hooper; sisters: Corrie and Sinnie; and brothers: Arnold, J.C., and Buck. Surviving is her daughter, Roberta Dukes Petree of Asheville; Robertas oldest son, Michael Anderson (Heather) of Asheville; Michaels two children, great-grandson Austin Anderson of Malone, FL and great-granddaughter Alyssa Anderson of Asheville; also, Michaels step great-grandson, Wyatt Cherry; Robertas youngest son, Robbie Anderson (Leslie) and their two daughters, great-granddaughters Hannah and Haylee Anderson; Robbies step sons, Johnathan Anderson (April), Giovannie and Nathaniel Anderson and Maykala Fortenberry (Johnathans children); James Anderson (Brandy) and James daughter, Emma Anderson of Asheville and Robbies step daughter, Heather Parton (Jeff) and their children, Nicolas, Josh and Addison Parton of Asheville; Johns oldest daughter, Barbara Dukes Clayson (Greg) and their two boys, great-grandsons Theo and Calvin Clayson of New Burn; Johns youngest daughter, Marie Belvelry (Eddie) of Asheville; and her dear and faithful friends and neighbor, John and Arleen Gibson, upon whom she depended greatly. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Buddy Corbin, Rev. Butch Stillwell, and Rev. Jeff Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 3:30 PM Thursday at the church.
