Claude Sr. Bassett

Alexander Claude William Bassett, Sr., 75, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, August 3, 2016. A resident of Buncombe County for most of his life, Mr. Bassett was a veteran of the US Navy, with over 10 years of service. He worked as a painter, and was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church in Canton. Mr. Bassett was the son of the late Claude A. and Mary Emma Calloway Bassett Thomas. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Huey Thomas; daughters: Tina McKinney and Michelle Bassett; sister, Rose Mary House; and brother, Huey Thomas, Jr. Surviving are his wife, Sandra Curtis Bassett; son, Junior Bassett (Donna); daughter, Pamela Bassett; step-children: Donna Meadows and Mike Meadows (Missie); sisters: his twin sister Claudia Maltry, Geraldine Robinson (Elden), Beverly King and Christine Elizabeth Thomas; brothers: Roy Allen Bassett and George Thomas (Barbara); and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Worley officiating. Burial will follow in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 10:30 AM Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Beaverdam Baptist Church, 2524 Beaverdam Road, Canton, NC 28716.
