Clarence E. Higgins

December 11, 1918 — January 29, 2010

ASHEVILLE Clarence Edward Higgins, 91, entered into rest Friday, January 29, 2010 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center. A native of Yancey County, he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He retired in 1970 from American Enka Corporation and operated his family farm. He was a member of Reed Memorial Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Higgins was the son of the late Isaac Monroe Higgins and Maggie Peterson Higgins and husband of Pauline Alexander Higgins who died September 7, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his son, Russell Edwin Higgins who died in 1949 and grandson, Matthew Isaac Higgins who died in 1983. Surviving are his daughters, Claryce Sinclair (Joe) of Statesville, Cynthia Sevier (Ken) of Germanton and Joan Muse (Chuck) of Leicester; son, Nelson Higgins (Ruth) of Asheville; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Alexander and Mary Will Higgins both of Asheville; grandchildren, Stephen Sinclair, Jennifer Shreffler, John Sevier, Charlie Sevier, Megan Barker, Russell Buchanan & Edwin Higgins; great grandchildren, Sarah, Selah, Samuel & Elijah and several nieces & nephews. Graveside services will be held 11 A.M. Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. David Blackmon and Mrs. Leah Brown officiating. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Mountain Ridge Wellness Center for their love and care of our father. The family wishes to also say a special thanks to Mrs. Norma Cabe for her love and care. If you choose to make a memorial, it may be made to the charity of your choice in the memory of Mr. Higgins.
