Clarence "Cub" Williams

August 12, 1921 — January 6, 2004

Candler - Clarence Cub Williams, 82, of 10 Glencliff Road died Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Graham County, he resided in Buncombe County since 1973. He retired from Select Foods after 29 years of service. During his retirement he enjoyed woodcrafting and specialized in making seagulls. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion. He was a son of the late Milburn and Lexie Winfrey Williams and was also preceded in death by brothers, James Arnold Williams and Victor Williams and sisters Carrie Johnson and Hazel Duncan. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy M. Welch Williams of the home; daughter, Linda Donehey and husband Richard of Gibsonville; stepsons, Randy Welch and wife Kathy of Marion, J. Robert Welch and wife Nancy of Columbus, GA. and James Welch and wife Christa of Burleson, TX; stepdaughter, Deborah Linch of Atlanta, GA.; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Houston officiating. Burial will be in Garrett Hillcrest Cemetery in Waynesville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. A special thanks for your love and support to Bess Skipper, Kim Huene, Angie Hawkins, Joe Scruggs and Ethel McCabe.
