Chief David Bryson, Retired

March 1, 1938 — June 19, 2013

Candler David McClellan Bryson, 75, of 588 Reeves Cove Road, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in 1989 following 30 years of service with Asheville Fire Department, where at the time of his retirement, he served as District Chief. He was a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446 and a faithful member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church since 1991. Mr. Bryson was the son of the late John Wilkerson Bryson who died in 1983 and Pauline Elizabeth Cochrane Bryson who died in 1989. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Paul and Bonnie Cochrane who raised him and his brother, Johnny Bryson. Surviving are his wife whom he married September 17, 1985, Renee Warren Bryson of the home; daughter, Shandi Bryson Rice and husband Dean of Candler and their children who he adored, Jake and Savannah Rice; daughter, Paula Bryson of Asheville; son, Mack Bryson and wife Diane of Greenville, SC and their children, Adam, Andrew and Amy and dear friends, Don and Vickey Sitton of Fletcher. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, June 22, 2013 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Furman Wilson and Rev. Mark Crowder officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with honors provided by the Buncombe County Firefighters Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 P.M.
