Arden - Charlie Mae Cannon Collins, 84, of 3864 Sweeten Creek Road, died Friday April 19, 2003 at The Oaks of Sweeten Creek following a period of decling health. A native of McDowell County, she had resided in Buncombe County since the mid 1940s. She retired in 1980 after 28 years of service with Memorial Mission Hospital as a Unit Secretary. She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church since the late 1950s, where she was a former choir member and a member of the Joy Club. She was a daughter of the late O. E. and Kate McNeeley Cannon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Clifford Collins and their son, James Thomas Jimmy Collins. Surviving are her daughters, Becky Case of Horse Shoe and Betty Rathburn of Asheville; step-daughter, Jean Melton of Enka: step-sons, Bob Collins of Marshall and Ray Collins of Greenville, SC; sister, Catherine Wall of Pleasant Gardens; brother, Jay Cannon of Nebo; grandchildren, Dwight Jackson and Wendy Ledford; great grandchildren, Dustin and Kendall Sanders and Steven Tyler Jackson; 11 step-grandchildren, a number of step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs Carson Moseley and Dr. Foyd Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the home of Becky Case, 76 Wild Laurel Way, Horse Shoe.
