Charles Chuck W. Schultz, 81, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. At his side was his best friend, soul mate, beloved wife and fellow NFL football fan, Lea Schultz, who shared his life for nearly 21 years. Chuck spent 23 years as a much-loved English and History teacher who enjoyed introducing Huckleberry Finn and many of his other favorite books to his students. He was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Pirates, and served as a respected coach and mentor to high school baseball and basketball players in Rockford, Illinois. In later years, his skills as a teacher and coach made him ideally suited for a successful career in corporate Human Resources. Chuck considered himself a lifelong student, and after retiring to Asheville he studied and taught various subjects at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Chuck was the son of the late Franklin Schultz and Isabelle (Minor) Schultz. He had three brothers and a sister Jimmy, Jerry, Elmer and Dolly who also preceded him in death. In addition to his wife, Chucks memory will be cherished by his three children: Amy (Patrick) Dillon of Durham, and their sons Noah and Rory; Kathryn (Michael) Blanchard of Madison, WI and their sons Finnley and Milo; and William Larsen of Cherokee, Texas. Chuck also had two stepchildren, Rick (Anne) Keefer of Rockford, IL and their three children, and Kimberlie Hamilton of Los Angeles, CA. A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 16 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Cantor Debra Winston officiating. Friends are welcome to visit 30 minutes prior to the service. Friends and family may also sign an online guest book on the Memorials page at andersrice.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Chucks name to: OLLI, Reuter Center, 1 University Heights, Asheville, NC 28804, ATTN: Ann Cadle.
