Asheville - Charles Edward Penley, 65, of 407 Gorman Bridge Road, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 28, 2006 at his home. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Charles worked as a drywall finisher, and was a member of Browns Chapel Baptist Church. His passion was classic cars and car shows. He was a loving husband, father, and Paw, and will be greatly missed by many. He was the son of the late Vernon Victor and Ethel Cocthran Penley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Winston Penley. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Alma Owenby Penley, of the home; children: Charles Penley, Eddie Penley and Marc Penley and wife Flo, all of Asheville, and Cecilia Rhymer and husband Jeff of Weaverville; grandchildren: Brandon Penley, Scott & Allison Rhymer, Dustin, Hannah, and Bryson Penley, and Dillion Bunch; sisters: Elaine Elkins and husband Jimmy of Asheville, Sharon Woody and husband Junior and Betty Viands and husband George, all of Leicester; and brother, Vernon Penley and wife Leila of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Pastor Marc Penley and Pastor Willard Pruitt officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
