Charles Collins

Asheville Charles Lewis Collins, 75, of 158 Flynn Branch Road went home to Heaven on Thursday, February 9, 2012. He was in the care of Emerald Ridge Rehab and Care Facility after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He attended West Buncombe School and was retired from UNCA after 28 years of service as a master carpenter. Mr. Collins has been a loyal member of New Liberty Baptist Church since 1958. He was a choir director for many years, and Sunday School Teacher and a dedicated deacon to his church family. A wonderful man of God. Mr. Collins was the son of the late Rev. Lewis and Fannie Collins who precedes him in death as well as his wonderful wife Novella, whom he was married to for 56 years and sisters, Clara Rogers and Martha Curry. Also a son, Dewayne Collins. Surviving are his children, Doug Collins and wife Jacqueline, Darleen Dover and husband Sammy, Donna Shipman and husband Kenny and Darin Collins and wife Sandy all of Asheville; grandchildren, Danita Shook, Christopher Collins, Caleb Collins, Eric Dover, Jennifer Holcomb, Phillip Shipman, Ryan Shipman, Travis Collins, Terrance Collins, Trent Collins and Connie Gault; great-grandchildren, Pailey and Wyatt Shook, Justin and Ashlyn Smith, Hunter Gault and Sawyer Collins. He is also survived by brothers, Harold, Rev. Jackie and Jerry Collins and sister, Betty Goldsmith. As well as many other precious family members. Visitation will be held Sunday at New Liberty Baptist Church 2:30 till 3:30 PM. Funeral services will start at 3:30 PM with Revs. Garry Rogers, Tommy Dorsey, Jackie Collins and Danny Little officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A special thanks to caregivers at Mission Hospital and Emerald Ridge. A very special thank you to Doug who cared lovingly for his dad during the last year of his lifes journey.
