Callie Gertrude Plemmons

November 25, 1906 — December 8, 2006

Candler - Callie Gertrude Ashe Plemmons, 100, of 9 Ashe Road, passed away Friday, December 8, 2006 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center following a short illness. A native of Swain County, she grew up in the small town of Judson, before the construction of the Fontana Dam. She came to Buncombe County in 1973 following retirement in as an owner of a general store in Gaffney, SC. Callie was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late William and Elvira Welch Ashe, and the widow of the late James Edward Ed Plemmons. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ida Clarinda Ashe; and three brothers: Samuel Burgin Ashe, William Claude Ashe, and Harley Ashe. Surviving are her niece, Margaret Ann Ashe, and nephews: Robbie Ashe and J. Lee Ashe. Funeral services will be held at 5 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kathy Pittman officiating. Callie will be buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4-5 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
