Bud Bodenhamer

Alexander Walter Bynum Bud Bodenhamer, Jr., 86, of Alexander, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Forsyth County, Bud had resided in Buncombe County for 50 years. He was a retired engineer with Southern Railway and was of the Moravian faith. He was a veteran of the US Navy, and a proud participant of 2011 Rotary District 7670 Honor Air Flight. Bud was the son of the late Walter Bynum Bodenhamer, Sr., and Hattie Cornish Bodenhamer. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Frances Coble Bodenhamer; children: Gail Todd (Bill) of Mocksville, NC, Kay Slawson (Wayne) of Anderson, SC, Kerry Bodenhamer (Wink) of Mountain Home, and Kathy Hunter of Horse Shoe; grandchildren: William Todd, Jr. (Tonya), Sherri Fisher (Michael), Ami Service (Wil), Christopher Slawson, and AJ Bodenhamer (Rebecca); great-grandchildren: Jordan Fisher, Mason Fisher, Brendan Stanton, Keegan Slawson, Izzy Service, Logan Bodenhamer, and Evyn Service; sisters: Frances Highfield, Mozelle Flynt, and Deanna Williams (Tommy); brothers: Bob Bodenhamer (Audrey) and Jack Bodenhamer (Linda); special boys: Robbie Payne and Ricky Payne; and special friends, the Leicester Highway McDonalds Breakfast Buddies, aka Newsroom. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM 1:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
