Blanche Greene Hawkins

June 24, 1923 — March 16, 2005

Candler - Blanche Ann Greene Hawkins of Candler, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Pardee Care Center following a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 2 of West Asheville. She was the daughter of the late Grady Henry Greene, Sr. and Virgle Ivey Netherton Greene, and the wife of Leonard W. Hawkins, who passed away March 12, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Greene and Helen Ball. Surviving are her two sons: Bobby Hawkins and wife Edna of Asheville, and Grady Hawkins and wife Doris of Hendersonville; her daughter, Carol Robbins of Hendersonville; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Mildred Graham and Doris Barnes, both of Asheville; and her brother, Grady Greene, Jr. of Candler. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Lewis and Rev. David Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may visit to pay their respects at the funeral home.
