Asheville Billie Lee Lunsford Anders, 77, of 6 Old #20, went to be with the Lord Monday, February 6, 2012 after a brief period of illness. Billie was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Dorsey Lee and Ora Mae Shelton Lunsford. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Fred B. Anders, sister, Helen Riddle and special parents, Tate W. and Bernice Whitaker Haynes. Billie graduated from Emma High School and attended Mars Hill College. Surviving are her children, Karen Anders, Kim Clements and husband Gib and Keith Anders and wife Kathy, all of Asheville; grandchildren, Alicia Motsinger and Tyler Clements of Asheville, Erin Morrow of Charlotte and Kelly Silvers and husband Jacob of Weaverville; great grandchildren, Hunter Motsinger, Zeb and Jaxson Silvers. She also is survived by her twin sister, Betty Jean Stewart, her brother, Lloyd Lunsford and wife Beverly and sister, Hazel Minshew. Billie had a gift for working with children and served as an instructional assistant for 32 years at West Buncombe Elementary School, dedicating her life to working and caring for the children of the Erwin community. She was the schools first parent volunteer in the 1960s and Buncombe Countys first teachers aide. She also started the communitys first Girl Scout Chapter. In 1995 she was chosen from 28 assistants as West Buncombes Instructional Assistant of the Year. She went on to win the title for all of Buncombe County as well, outshining more than 400 other local assistants. She eventually took the title for the entire District 8 region. Billie touched the lives of everyone who knew her, especially the Leuangs, the Laotian family she adopted many years ago. She once stated, I was their mother, their plumber, their electrician their security. Billie was a pillar of strength and compassion in the community to her neighbors, church family and all of her many cake customers. Billie was known far and wide for her talent as a baker. She specialized in everything from a variety of baked breads, pound cakes, pumpkin rolls to an assortment of pies. Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Friday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen and Rev. Butch Stillwell officiating. Burial will be held in the Green Hills Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Clements, Jacob Silvers, Ting Leuang, Theaung Leuang, Ron Morrow, Charlie McAbee, John Kennington and Calvin Parham. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P.M. Friday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Kim Clements at 42 ODonald Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813. The family wishes to thank all of the doctors, RNs, CNAs, volunteers and everyone involved in the care-taking of Billie during her stay at Pisgah Manor and the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. The family also wishes to thank Laura Davis for the love and compassion she showed to our mom as her caregiver for the past several years. Billie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, affectionately known by her family and loved ones as Mimi.
