Bill Lands

Canton - William Jesse Bill Lands, 72, of 1033 Turnpike Road, passed away Monday, September 29, 2008 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, Mr. Lands resided in Buncombe County from 1944 to 1977, before returning to Haywood County. He retired in 1992 following 22 years of service from Gerber Baby Foods Mfg. Mr. Lands was the son of the late William Ross and Beulah Parris Lands. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Frank, Bob, and Jim Lands, and an infant sister, Hilda Lands. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Doris K. Lands; three sons: Larry Lands of Asheville, Gary Lands of Leicester, and Terry Lands of Asheville; four step-children: Dwight Holcombe, Cathy Eckenrod, Sharon Williams and Teresa Smith, all of Canton; sister, Linda Henderson and husband, Garry of Asheville; sister-in-law, Pat M. Lands of Asheville; 13 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A private burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clyde, NC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ones favorite charity. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is assisting the Lands family.
