Bill Dockery

April 15, 1935 — July 7, 2013

Asheville William Harvey Dockery, Sr., 78, of Old County Home Road, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life and was a member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church. He was formerly an Insurance Representative for Liberty Life Insurance Company, was Owner & Operator of Service Paint Company on Biltmore Avenue and was employed at Glidden Paint Company on Merrimon Avenue. After his wife and family, his passion in life was his music, having sung in Gospel Music for over 60 years. Mr. Dockery was the son of the late Carl and Irene Buckner Dockery. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bryan L. Dockery; son-in-law, Michael Ross, father and mother-in-law, Paul and Mildred Jenkins and sisters, Pat Radford Dotson and Peggy Deal. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Virginia Jenkins Dockery of the home; children, Yvonne Ross of Asheville, J.R. Dockery (Nancy) of Greer, SC and Ida D. Carpenter (Craig) of Morristown, TN; granddaughters, Heather Ross Kolomechuk (Keith), Brook Coates (Harvey), Ginia Hand (Tyler), Bryana Carpenter and Stacey Roberts (Michael); great grandchildren, Kannon, Kason, Makinlee, Elijah and Reagan; sisters, Betty Quillen, Grace Jones, Dorothy Douthat and Mickie Ross and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Holder officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Jim Whitted officiating.
