Bill Black

August 15, 1922 — October 19, 2008

Waynesville William Bill Luther Black, 86, of 128 Burnette Circle passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Haywood Regional Hospital. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Haywood County from 1942 - 1966, then resided in Asheville for 35 years prior to retiring to Haywood County in 2003. He was a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and was employed with Crawford Funeral Home in Waynesville for 11 years, employed with Groce Funeral Home for 25 years and employed with Anders-Rice Funeral Home for 10 years and was a U. S. Navy veteran during World War II. Mr. Black was the son of the late John Arthur Black and Dora Carolyn Pinkerton Black and was also preceded in death by his son, William Michael Black who died in 1944. Surviving are his wife, Jo Ann Singleton Black of the home, whom he married July 4, 1943; daughters, Barbara Ann Putnam & husband, William and Jori Popp & husband, Mike all of Waynesville; grandchildren, Sonia Jones, Dean Putnam & wife, Rita and Josh Popp; great-grandchildren, Mandy, Krista and Hollie; sisters, Verlie Allen & husband, James of Asheville and Ivarine Trull of Canton and his buddy, his dog Sandy. Memorial services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, October 25, 2008 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller officiating. Memorials may be made to ones favorite charity.
