Betty Louise Cooksey

Asheville - Betty Louise Cooksey, 79, formerly of 42 Swannanoa Avenue, went to be with her Lord on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, 2006 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals following a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Ms. Cooksey was the former manager of H.E. Garrett Insurance Company, the owner of Cooksey Insurance Company and was listed in the 1970-71 Edition of Whos Who of Americas Women. She was a lifelong member of Oak Forest Presbyterian Church. Ms. Cooksey was the daughter of the late James Henry Cooksey, Sr. and Valeria Anders Cooksey. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, James Henry Cooksey, Jr. and Walter Allen Cooksey. Although she never had any children of her own, Ms. Cooksey raised four nieces, Karen Anderson of Asheville, Linda Lunsford of Barnardsville, Marti Cooksey and Sandra Cooksey, both of Portland, OR, as her own. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Amerson of New Bern, NC, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Price officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Friday at the funeral home.
