Betty Jean Carland

Betty Jean Carland, 69, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Harlan and Cathryn Taylor Gentry. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Hollifield; brother, Wilburn Gentry; and nephew, Randy Gentry. Betty was employed with Wal-Mart for more than 20 years having served in various positions through that time. Surviving are her husband, Lewis Emmett Carland of the home; son, Eugene Carland of Weaverville; brother Johnny Gentry of Marshall; nieces and nephews: Tommy Hollifield, Katrinia Dickerson, Donnie Gentry, Vickie Gentry, and Darlene Gentry. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Coles Cove Independent Baptist Church, 393 Upper Flat Creek Rd, Weaverville, with Rev. Donald Burchette officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 2 PM Saturday at the church.
