Benjamin "Benny" Cameron

June 27, 1923 — January 17, 2005

Asheville - Benjamin Rollins Benny Cameron, 81, died Monday January 17, 2005 at the Asheville VA Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Pickens SC. he resided in Asheville since 1952 except for 12 years in Charlotte before retiring on disability and moving back to Asheville. He was a WWII Battle of the Bulge veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as a meat-cutter and Bi-Los store manager. he loved gardening and cooking and was a big Atlanta Braves Fan. He was a son of the late Robert Feaster and Margaret Lela Cameron. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Valley, Ed, Bruce, Doug and Johnny; sisters, Eunice, Henrietta and Mary and his beloved pet silky terrier Spud. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Hazel Jacqueline Early Cameron; daughters, Barbara Rogers and husband John of Asheville and Brenda Cameron and husband Jay Naegebauer of Colorado Springs, Col.; grandchildren, Bonnie, Katy and John Paul; great grandchildren, Cameron and Ivy; beloved niece, Virginia Hilliard and husband Tommy and his sister-in-law, Bernice Cameron. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday February 4, 2005 at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. The family will receive friends following services at the funeral home.
