ASHEVILLE Barry Russell Clayton, 57, of 8 Stevens Hill Road, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, July 22, 2008. A native of Wake County, he had resided in Buncombe County since High School and was a 1969 graduate of A.C. Reynolds High School. He worked 32 years for Farm Equipment Company, was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, was an active member of the East Asheville United Methodist Church and avid outdoorsman. Mr. Clayton is the son of Ruby Woodlief Clayton of Asheville and the late L.R. Clayton. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 38 years, Donna Grant Clayton of the home; sons, Sherman Travis Clayton and wife, Amy of Fairview & Russell T. Clayton and friend, Laura of Leicester; grandchildren, Denver, Jillian & Grant Clayton - known affectionately by his grandchildren as Poppa Bear; sisters, Deborah Clayton of Asheville & Anita Hutchins of Matthews; son-in-law of Betty Chandler Grant of Fairview and the late Denver Grant and Faithful Companion & Friend, Sparky. Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Sunday at East Asheville United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Benton officiating. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:30 to 3:15 PM Sunday at the church prior to services.
