Barbara Pressley

April 22, 1933 — March 31, 2007

Fairview Barbara Lee Gilliam Pressley, 73, of 56 Spring Mtn. Road, went to be with her Lord Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was a homemaker and member of Gashes Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and the W.M.U. Mrs. Pressley was a daughter of the late Alfred Thurl Gilliam and Carrie Mae Pittillo Gilliam and also preceded in death by her brothers, Edwin W. Gillam and Sherrill Gilliam. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Merrimon Lewis Pressley of the home; daughters, Dr. Joyce C. Pressley and husband, Michael P. Schumacher of New York City, N.Y., Elaine Wilkes and husband, Rev. Tommy Wilkes of Fairview, Cindy Anderson and husband, Andy Anderson of Barnardsville; son, Larry Pressley and wife, Aundria Pressley of Morganton; sister, Shirley Whittemore of Weaverville; brothers, Jody Gilliam of Hendersonville, John Gilliam of Ocala, Florida, Mack Gilliam of Fairview; grandchildren, Eric Wilkes, Kelly Ray, Jeremy Rogers, Phillip Pressley & Melissa Pressley; 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Sprouse and Rev. Darryl Searcy officiating. Burial will be in Spring Mtn. Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Barbaras devotion to her family and Saviour, Jesus Christ was evident to all who knew her. She gave sacrificially of her time and resources and will be greatly missed. Memorials may be made to: Gashes Creek Baptist Church, 308 Gashes Creek Road, Asheville, N.C. 28805.
