West Asheville Barbara Joan Moffat Costello, 74, of 65 McDade Street, went to be with her Lord, Monday, January 28, 2008 following a brief illness at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mrs. Costello retired from Ice Service, Inc. following 54 years of service as Office Manager. She was a member and former Sunday School Teacher at The Chapel and formerly attended West Asheville Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Costello was the daughter of the late Joel Kirby Moffat and Margaret Edna Spain Moffat. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Moffat formerly of Oteen. Surviving are her husband and lifelong love of 55 years, William H. Bill Costello of the home; daughter, Barbara Tootie Hensley of Nashville, TN and son-in-law, Mike Hensley of Asheville; grandchildren: William Billy Hensley & wife Rachel of Asheville, Lenora Cissy Bridges & husband Gardner of Leicester, Joseph Bobby Hensley of Asheville, Virginia Cookie Hensley of Nashville, Michael Bubba Hensley of Milwaukee, WI, Barbara Jean Hensley and Mary Catherine Hensley both of Nashville; great grandsons, William Prince Hensley and Jacob Hensley both of Asheville; sisters, Betty Huntsinger & husband Don of Asheville and Frances Hess & husband Charles of Cullowhee; sisters in law, Linda Moffat of Oteen, Betty Vanzant of Upland, CA, and Billie Sue Benton of Chattanooga, TN; and several nieces and nephews, dear friends including special friend Jeff Tucker of Asheville, and her sweet dog, Muffy. Words cannot describe what a wonderful woman she was. She truly loved all, and all loved her. She was one of the greatest flowers God ever planted on earth, and Heaven is even more beautiful today because of her. Thank you Nanny. We love you and will see you soon. Funeral services will be held on her and Bills 55th wedding anniversary at 2 PM Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gayle Brown and Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery with Rick Huntsinger, Chris & Robby Hess, Kyle & Evan McCurry and Ritchie Moffat serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Thursday at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the home of Cissy and Gardner Bridges, 446 Dix Creek #1, Leicester.
