Arsula Penland

Arsula Jane Penland, 89, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at her residence. She was a life long resident of Buncombe County and a member of Sunnyview Baptist Church. Mrs. Penland was a daughter of the late Fate and Annie Ballard Pressley and wife of the late Ralph Ed Penland. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Penland; daughters, Dixie Franks and Mary Frances Ray; brothers, Wilburn, and Jay Pressley and grandchildren, Cara Penland, Michelle Ray and Christopher Franks. Surviving are her children, Margaret Thomas and husband, Lon, Ann Ledford, Mack Penland and wife, Mary, Walter Penland and wife, Joy and JR Penland; 22 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Watkins and Bobbie Pressley; brothers, Merrimon, Leroy, Robert and James Pressley; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday, June 16, 2012 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Gene King officiating. Burial will follow in Penland Family Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
