His funeral service will be held on Monday, May 11th at 12:00 PM at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at 962 Old US 70 Highway Black Mountain with military rites conducted by the NC National Guard. After the war he returned to her in Asheville where they were married and would never be apart again. A veteran of WW II he was awarded several honors including the Victory Medal. After the military he went on to a proud career working for Drexel Furniture until the age of 76. In their retirement years Mamaw and Papaw took care of children who they called "their babies." His wife Virginia preceded him in death. His children Susan, Allen, and Neil, his 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren survive him. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be given to the Charles George Veterans Hospital (http://www.asheville.va.gov/giving/).
