Alice Marie Roberts

Asheville Alice Marie Roberts, 80, of 33 Osborne Road, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009 at her home. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was an accounting clerk for many years. Mrs. Roberts was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and had volunteered early in her life with the Salvation Army. She loved to read, and enjoyed listening to gospel music, especially the Gaither family. Mrs. Roberts was the daughter of the late Robert W. and Rachel Clark Guthrie, and was the widow of the late Fulton Roberts, Sr. She was also preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. Surviving are her son, Tony Guthrie and wife Peggy of Arden; brother, Walter Guthrie and wife Louise of Fletcher, with whom she was very close; sister, Helen Strayhorne of Asheboro; two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Sunday at West Memorial Park, with the Rev. John Warren officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 PM Saturday evening at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
