Asheville - Alice Mae Barnes Corn, 84, formerly of 380 Brevard Road, passed away Friday, August 5, 2005 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center following a period of declining health. A native of Buncombe County, she lived here until 1961, when she moved to Orlando, FL and began working for the Bendix Corporation, where she manufactured parts for the space program, and later for the Dayron Corporation. She returned to Asheville in 1979. Ms. Corn was a member of the Salvation Army until becoming a member of Malvern Hills Presbyterian Church. Ms. Corn was the daughter of the late Theodore and Julia Brown Barnes. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Ralph M. Corn, Jr., who passed away in 1993; a son, Ralph Buddy Corn, III; a daughter, Amelia Warfel; four brothers and three sisters. Surviving are her daughters: Wilma Momkes and husband Hans of Arden, and Patricia Mayfield and husband Steve of Greensboro; her son, Phillip Corn of Lawsonville, NC; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Johnson of Brunswick, GA; a special friend, Bessie Hawkins of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren: David Lee Austin, Michael M. Gregg, Teresa Messer, John Samuel Messer, Cynthia (Cindy) Warfel, Ronald A. Padgett, and Amanda Leigh Short; 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday at Malvern Hills Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Doug Tilley officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
