Asheville Alfred Holcombe, 89, of 15 Talmadge Street, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A native of Yancey County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1958. He was a retired Pipe Fitter and was a WWII US Army veteran. He was a son of the late John Alvin and Nellie Jane Holcombe and husband of Lillian Creola Frady Holcombe who died December 5, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his son, John Alvin Holcombe; two infant brothers and sister, Ruby Pike. Surviving are his three children, Martha H. Large (John) of the home, William David Holcombe (Pat) of Tuxedo and Ronald Eugene Holcombe (Terina) of Jefferson City, MO; sisters, Emma Lou Holcombe, Kathleen Bryson, Libby McHattie (Don), Nita Tipton (Walter) and Eva Holcombe; brothers, Ed Holcombe (Doris), Ted Holcombe (Barbara) and Grant Holcombe (Lois); brother-in-law, Clarence Dotson and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Eddie Conard officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the NC National Guard.
