Asheville – Rev. Hobert Laston Wilson, Jr., 84, of 35 Oakley Road, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek.

He was a native of Fairview and resident of the Oakley Community for most of his life, where he was affectionately known as the “Mayor of Oakley”.

Rev. Wilson was a retired Baptist Minister for over 50 years in the Madison, Haywood and Buncombe County area, and was ordained in 1967 at Little Creek First Baptist Church where he served as Pastor for 8 years, and also serving at Rocky Face, Bethel, Locust Grove, Long Branch, Pleasant Hill, Madison Seminary, Beech Glen and Emmas Grove Baptist Church where he was a member.

He retired in 1974 from the US Postal Service where he served as a letter carrier.

He was a son of the late Hobert Laston Wilson and Janie Lou Dotson Wilson and was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Surviving are his wife, whom he married December 31, 1954, Barbara Bailey Wilson of the home; daughters, Cindy Wilson Sills and husband, Ernie of Hickory and Nancy A. Wilson and husband, Jeff Shelton of Asheville; special grandcat, “Jazzy”; brother, Jim “Doc” Wilson and wife, Ruth Ann of Walnut; brother-in-law, Tyrone Bailey of Asheville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Emmas Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Leslie and Rev. Ron Stroupe (nephew) officiating. Burial will follow in Emmas Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
