Asheville - Franklin Edward “Frankie” Hughes, Sr., 58, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Hughes was self-employed as a painter. He was an avid fisherman and NASCAR fan, and loved to travel. He was a wonderful son, father, grandfather, and brother, and was a friend to all.
Mr. Hughes was the son of Rose Weatherford Bridges of Asheville and the late James Faye Bridges. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Hughes, and nephew, Michael Smith.
In addition to his mother, surviving are his son, Franklin Edward Hughes, Jr. of Asheville; daughters: Christy Hughes of Weaverville and Terry Owenby of Candler; sisters: Linda Coleman, Ida Mae McMahan, Lelia Penley, and Carolyn Hudson, all of Asheville; brother and special caregiver, David Hughes and wife Serina; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, including special niece Dawn Brown.
Memorial services will be held at 6 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charlie Sams and Rev. Billy Higgins officiating.
The family will receive friends following the services.
