Ana contributed this message on Monday, July 2, 2018:

Our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family. Words alone can not ease the pain when grieving the loss of a love one. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states: And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. May God give you and your family comfort in your loving memories and in His promise that soon we will never experience losing our loved ones in death and we will be able to see them again once they resurrected as per John 5:28-29. May these words give you a new hope, with deepest sympathy and warmth of heart.

Lewis was truly great guy. He had only been at Model a couple years when my dad took me to meet him and Parnell Carter. Lewis (mostly) and Parnell cut my hair for about 10 years. A year or two after meeting Lewis I began filling in for Henry the Shoeshine Man whenever he wanted or needed time off. I did that and other work until I turned 16 and got a full time job. Whether I was at Model as a customer or employee Lewis was always an encourager. Friendly, kind, and instructional was his nature. Always ready with a story or asking questions aimed at pulling an otherwise quiet boy out of his shell. A number of years passed, and living in Fletcher I frequented West Asheville less often, but when it came time to get my son his first haircut, Lewis was the only choice. A picture taken in Lewis' chair of him and my now 36 year old son Craig is a treasured possession of a professional and friend exhibiting loving care and attention. My dad has long since passed and now Lewis, both gone to be with their Savior but the memories will live on. The entire family has my thoughts and prayers. Mike

I was thinking about Lewis this morning. He was a friend and one of the best barbers in Asheville. When Lewis retired I went back one time to the shop. It just wasn't the same. My wife was from Madison County and Lewis knew all her relatives. Historian yes. Not being from Madison I learned so much from Lewis. Family cherish the memories of your Dad and Mom. May God give you peace and love.

Thank you to Lewis for the friendship and excellent service he provided at Model Barber Shop. My father brought me to Model Barber Shop as a small boy and I continued to go there as a teenager, young man, and into when the shop closed. I introduced my son to Model Barber Shop and, to this day, we have our hair cut by a former master barber who worked there, Eddie Williams.

Lewis was a wonderful man and will be missed.
