We share in your grief and in the loving memories of Jim - here in Daytona Beach.

He will be greatly missed and his spirit never forgotten - especially for his staunch support and love for the Friends of the Bandshell over the last 21 years.

The Shipman family met Jim in the 1960's, when he came to the plumbing company to teach Mrs.Shipman the art of bookkeeping. He quickly became a valued friend to all of us. His smile would light up a room and he always had tales to tell. After the Collins family moved to Florida, he would always drop by the office to visit when he returned to visit Ruth's mother. I,Sarah, still have one pillowcase from the bedding set my husband and I received as a wedding gift. I know he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Our prayers are with the family.

To "smilin' Jim- you will be missed. The tennis groups' Friday lunches, mostly at Pizza Hut, the fun tennis games- and later poker games when we had to give up tennis. Attending the bandshell concerts and knowing you and Ruth would, unfailingly, be there.
Say Hello to Russ,Jim!

It was 1968 and my dad was late picking me up from an after-school activity. Finally, I could see Dad waving as the big Chevy sedan zoomed right to left in front of the school. There was someone in the passenger seat.
The car turned into the school driveway and screeched to a halt just in front of me. A large man with big glasses and an even bigger smile said, Hop on in the back, son! Thats how I met Jim Collins.

Dads new friend turned out to have an amazing wife and a couple of kids (both also amazing) roughly the same ages as my little sister and me. We were all instant friends and over time became kin.

I always looked forward to visits to and from Uncle Jim, Aunt Ruth, Cheri, Stephen over the years. The sketti" dinners, fish camps in the early days, trips to the beach, that crazy snowstorm in Fayetteville 1980, weddings, graduations; life events big and small.

Jim was my dads (Joe Brown) best friend. Dads been gone five years now. I know Jim must have missed him terribly.

I can picture the two of them now, just two friends driving around in a Chevy, not a care in the world.

My thoughts are with all the family and friends who knew and loved Jim. Special love of course to the still-amazing, beautiful Ruth; the funny, smart, lovely Cheri; and of course the funny, smart, lovely Stephen.

Jim Collins was a big man, with a huge heart. After my fathers death over 27 years ago, he let me adopt him as a fill in. He was always there with a positive word for me and support that never wavered, especially after my husband's death. He made sure I knew how strong I was and to keep on keeping on.... He loved Ruth, Cheri and Stephen to death. There was nothing he wouldn't due for any of us. He will leave a gaping hole in our hearts but he will never be forgotten. I know you are feeling better now. Thank you also for your service to OUR COUNTRY.
Signed with Lots of Love and a heavy heart,
Your AD,
Michele

Our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family. Words alone can not ease the pain when grieving the loss of a love one. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". May God give you and your family comfort in your loving memories and in His promise that soon we will never experience losing our loved ones in death and we will be able to see them again once they resurrected as per John 5:28-29. May these words give you a new hope, with deepest sympathy and warmth of heart.
