May it help in some way to know that friends are sharing the sorrow in your heart. I worked with Alice for 30 years, she was very special to me. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure to hold. May the comfort of family and friends give you strength for today and the days to come. To Johnnie, Anita and Mike I just want to say that your loss is also my loss. I shall never forget Donna and what she has meant to me and to each of you for receiving me into your home to live when I arrived at Erwin High School a very misplaced and unhappy person. God saw fit to let me meet and fall in love with all of you. I know that Donna was the biggest factor for that to happen and again I am sorry but yet happy she does not have to suffer anymore. I can see Jr. waving that handchief to welcome her in Heaven with her Mother by his side. What a wonderful sight. To all the rest of you thank you for the love and support she got. I cannot be there for the services but God know my Heart and the sorrow I feel for this great loss. Keep me in all of your prayers. I love each of you. Dear Cathey family, so many great memories! Donna and Terry were an inspirational part in my family singing God's praises! All that know Donna have been blessed to have crossed by her way. I worshipped at Sunrise Baptist Chirch many years ago when the Cathey Family ministered there. The church sold plates to increase the Building Fund and ours remains on my wall today and always reminds me of the Cathey Family. Donna and I were the same age and she was a wonderful Sunday School and Jr. choir friend with such a beautiful voice. The family made a great impression on me and my life for Christ. It will be but a short time until we all together again. Weep not, my child, Joy comes in the morning. Many Blessings, God's Comfort and Peace to you all. Gilda

I guess I knew Donna since we were little girls and she would come to my house after church. She always had a great sense of humor and made me laugh. When my Mom had to go to Aston Park Nursing facility, I was really impressed with how Donna took care of her mother and visited her there every day after she got off from work. I saw her for the last time a few weeks before she passed, she still had the humor and mischief in her eyes. Rest in peace my dear friend, I am sure you are singing with the angels today. Prayers of comfort for all the family.

I remember Donna and her sister, Johnnie when they used to sing. My sister, Rose and I met them when we used to sing at churches and events the "Cathey Sisters" sung. We were called "the Dalton Sisters". I am so sorry to hear of Donna's passing. She is so young. But, I know that she is in a far better place than most of us. My prayers are with her family as I am sure they will forever miss her greatly.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family since 1972. Thank you for sharing Christ with me, and it was Mothers' Day 1972 when I surrendered all to Him. Donna was patient with me through many talks and late nights, plus a soft ball team, to show me God was the only way to live. Donna, Terry, and the entire Cathey Family, holds a "special" place in my heart! Thanks be to God, the old Friendship Baptist Church, The Singing Patriots, The Choir and its members, for helping to make my life complete. I called Donna "Sport." You will always be in my heart, "Sport," and I anxiously await for the day when we reunite in Heaven! Always with love, Woody

"It's the last mile you must trod. I'll fall asleep and wake in God's sweet heaven, for I'm sheltered in the arms of God." "Going home, I'm going home. There is nothing to hold me here. I've caught a glimpse of that Heavenly land, praise God, I'm going home." The Cathey Trio came to East Fork Baptist Church in the early 1970's and that's when I first met Donna and family. I was very ill at the time and they ministered to me through their music and through Donna's laughter many times over the years. Donna dedicated "Sheltered in the Arms of God" to me one Homecoming and it remains a favorite of mine to this day. Donna, Terry and this family are very special to me. Words fall short. My prayers are for healing and comfort for the family. Thank you Terry for all you did for Donna. She certainly loved her family ! She is already missed .

"I've got a home in Heaven. You know it's far beyond the sky. Not much in this world I own, but in Heaven I've got a home!" You always sang these words so deep within your soul that to me this was "Donna's" song. Donna's testimony. And, My favorite song that you sang. And throughout the years, how many times did you keep us laughing absolutely to tears just being Donna?! It was always such a good time just being around you and feeling the love you had for all of us. You showed everyone every day that God does have a since of humor. You were always able to keep people's undivided attention as we ministered through song. And, what a gift that was. Who knew what would say or do next? I will cherish forever the memories I have of you, and am thankful that you were a big part of my life as a youth with your love and guidance you gave when I needed it the most. We'll see you again someday very soon! Save me a place at the table. I Love You! Rodney

My thoughts and prayers are with each one of the family in this great loss. Donna was a one in a million and much loved by all that knew her. She was truly a blessing to me in the time I have known her. Her humor, her valued friendship and her love of others will always be with me. To Terry and Kenneth, you made her last days on this earth a comfort and you did all you possibly could to take care of her. Such sadness for the kids here, Nicola, JJ and Mary-Grace will never forget her funny stories and they loved her deeply. Blessings to all of you and prayers will continue for God's loving hand to ease your pain of loss. Alice, Mike, Nicola, JJ and Mary-Grace

Harry "Sonny" Dycus, Jr. contributed this message on Thursday, November 21, 2013:

Oh, the fond memories I have of Donna! In the early 1960's, Donna's youth choir and my youth choir would sing in the various churches around the Asheville area, and yes, we were very competitive. We had much in common as her Daddy and my Daddy, the Rev. Harry Dycus, Sr., were ministers of the gospel. Later in the 1960's, we were employed by the same company and enjoyed many days of sweet fellowship. I had a close relationship with her aunt, Terry Cathey, and the three of us would get together ... Donna and Terry would sing and I would play the piano for them. My prayers are with the family for their great loss. God, in His time, will heal your hearts tenderly and gently from the loss you experience today. "We'll say good night here, but Good Morning up there." In His Unfailing Love, Sonny

Jonnie and family, My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family at your loss. I think back to our Clark Fowler days and your talk with your mother about your church and your singing. I can't imagine losing one of my sisters. But it's a blessing to know where she is, and that we'll see her and sing with her again. You're in my prayers that God will grant you that grace that only He can give.

My heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of such a wonderful soul. Donna will always remain in my mind as true to her middle name, a "Joy" to be around. Even in sickness she maintained her bubbly personality. There is comfort in knowing she had a place in Heaven and my daughter was there to welcome her. Donna will be truly missed.
